Mandating Hui Now Complete
Phew the final mandating hui was held at Makahae Marae on Sunday 31 August 2008.
Over the past 3 weeks we have held mandating hui at TIA Marae (17th Aug 08), Rotorua (24th Aug 08) and finally Makahae Marae. A great turnout of Tapuika at all 3 hui with the largest being the hui on Sunday with almost 100 people in attendance. Claims co-ordinator Piatarihi Callaghan gave an overview of the journey towards settlement of Tapuika's historical grievances against the Crown outlining the specific historical claims of Tapuika and the role of the Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust in bringing the process thus far. As at the previous hui the assembled uri again gave their unanimous approval for the Tapuika Iwi Authority to be the body to enter into direct negotiations with the Crown and to continue with the mahi.
The Iwi Authority is confident that they will achieve a Deed of Mandate recognizing that the Iwi Authority has the mandate to negotiate on behalf of its people. The proposed date for the signing of the deed of mandate is October 2008.
The Tapuika Iwi Authority wishes to thank those who attended the mandating hui to tautoko the kaupapa. Special thanks to TPK Rotorua for the use of their Boardroom, Leanne Gardner and Norm Carter Independent Observers, Bim Skudder and David Lieu hui scrutineers, the cooks at all three hui, Tia Marae and Makahae Marae. No reira ka nui nga mihi kia koutou
