Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust Mandating Hui
At a Special General Hui a Iwi of Tapuika held at Ngati Moko Marae, Te Puke on the 10th December 2006, it was resolved that the Tapuika Iwi Authority would be established as a Common Law Trust for the purposes of negotiating settlement of all Tapuika historical Treaty of Waitangi Claims with the Crown. The Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust has since been established and the Crown has committed to entering into settlement negotiations subject to the Crown approving the mandate of the Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust.
To reconfirm the mandate of the Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust to represent Tapuika in negotiating a settlement the following mandate Hui are to be held for descendants of the tupuna Tapuika who belong to the hapu of Ngati Tauna, Ngati Te Kanawaihi, Ngati Ruangutu, Ngati Ngakohua, Ngati Totokau, Ngati Tukohuru, Ngati More, Ngati Marupuriri, Ngati Huaki, Ngati Tuheke, Ngati Taraokino, Ngati Te Kiri, Ngati Te Uarangi, Ngati Wahapua, Ngati Tu, Ngati Pahiko, Ngati Haungarangi, Ngati Kuri, Ngati Tahere, Ngati Tauraherehere, Ngati Ngarangipahi, Ngati Tukaheke, Ngati Marukukere, Ngati Hinerangi, Ngati Hineumu, Ngati Ngaroto, Ngati Te Pipi, Ngati Moko, Ngati Hinerua
To vote on the following resolutions:
- To reconfirm the Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust as the mandated body to enter into direct negotiations with the Crown for the comprehensive settlement of all historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of Tapuika; and
- To confirm that the Tapuika Iwi Authority Trust will receive, on behalf of its members, the Crown's on-account offer dated 19 June 2008.
The historical Treaty claims to be included in the settlement are: WAI 615, 825, 831 and 1182
Mandating Hui will be held:
- Sunday 17 August 2008, 11.00a.m. Tia Marae, Te Paamu, Te Puke
- Sunday 24 August 2008, 11.00a.m Te Puni Kokiri Offices 1218 -1224 Haupapa St, Rotorua
- Sunday 31 August 2008, 11.00a.m. Makahae Marae Te Kahika, Te Puke
A presentation will be given at each Hui regarding Tapuika's claims and the process towards settlement. Attendees will be asked to vote on the resolution at the Hui. To be eligible to vote you must be aged 18 years or older at your last birthday and be registered on the Tapuika Iwi Authority Register as a descendant of the tupuna Tapuika.
