5.2 Approach to Overlapping Claimant Interests
Within the claim area Tapuika have identified the following possible claimants who may have overlapping customary interests:
- Ngai Tamarawaho
- Nga Potiki
- Ngati Pukenga
- Waitaha
- Ngati Whakaue ki te tai moana
- Ngati Whakahemo
- Ngati Makino
Iwi that have already settled their claims and which may have an interest include Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa and Te Arawa Lakes Trust. In addition we have shared interests with Ngāti Rangiwewehi, with whom were are in joint negotiations.
Tapuika’s approach will be to meet with the claimants listed above to confirm whether an overlapping interest exists and then to find a pathway forward. Overlapping claimant interests will be resolved prior to any Deed of Settlement being signed with the Crown.
